Blog post by Julie Grant, communications officer at RoS.
In the lead up to our 400th anniversary charity golf tournament on the 25 May, we catch up with Edward Danks, a partner at Paris Steele W.S. solicitors who has a team competing on the day. A big thanks to Edward for taking time out of his working day to talk golf!
Q: The tournament is fast approaching, do you have your final team decided upon?
A: Yes, finally we do – the team is made up of two solicitors from my office (North Berwick) together with a local surveyor Simon Breeze, from Allied Surveyors Scotland and Scott Wallace, a financial advisor at Wallace Financial Planning.

Q: Do you all play golf regularly together as a group?
A: Unfortunately our opportunity to golf together is limited but we do work together on a very regular basis.
Q: Who has the best handicap amongst you and who do you think will win on the day?
A: Fraser Symon is our best player – handicap 1 and a very keen player… but the dark horse on the team might be Scott Wallace. He is an improving 14 handicapper who recorded his first hole-in-one a fortnight ago – clearly a man in form! I rather suspect that Simon Breeze and I will be carrying the clubs for our teammates as I haven’t managed a game of golf since January and Simon probably hasn’t played this year!
My experience at these types of events are that the scoring is always very impressive and I would expect a number of the teams to post a good total. As such I haven’t written a winner’s speech and will be pleased to get round the course in the company of my team, and won’t be too concerned about what’s on the scorecard.

Q: Tell us a bit about why you wanted to take part?
A: Although I’ve played a good number of golf courses in Scotland, I’ve not yet had the pleasure of the Queen’s Course at Gleneagles. I’m looking forward to testing out my (limited!) skills on such a quality course.
I am also delighted to be helping to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support Scotland and I’m sure that we will be blessed by some Perthshire sunshine on the day.
