Registers of Scotland continues to operate in line with Scottish Government guidance.
Our remote working practices are now well established and will continue for the foreseeable future.
RoS offices remain closed. However, if essential access to one of our offices is required for staff to complete a particular piece of work, this can be arranged in a manner which ensures the safety of all colleagues involved.
Tackling the arrear
Although the vast majority of our work is completed within service standards RoS has publicly recognised that we have an arrear of casework. We think this is unacceptable.
Prior to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic we were making strong progress in clearing the arrear. We continue to take steps to re-establish the momentum we have lost over the last 15 months so that we can clear the arrear completely and ensure that it does not return.

Register of Persons Holding a Controlled Interest in Land (RCI)
The design and development of the RCI service continues with a live date of 1 April 2022 for submissions.

This month, the team achieved another milestone passing the Alpha stage of Digital Standard assessment. The Digital Scotland Service Standards ensure that we are following best practice in the design of a digital service which meets users’ needs and uses the right technology.

COVID–19 Emergency Legislation extension
The Scottish Government has approved a Bill to extend provisions in the two Scottish Coronavirus Acts that were due to expire on 30 September 2021.
The Bill will extend provisions relating to Registers of Scotland in both Coronavirus (Scotland) Acts. This enables digital submission of applications to the property registers. It will also enable registration/recording and the issuing of documents relating to the Register of Inhibitions and the Register of Judgments to continue electronically.
